Here's a quick recipe for today. This Blueberry Protein Smoothie is a breakfast staple for me. Full of protein and healthy fats from hemp and vegan protein powder, it’s a great way to fuel up before starting the day.
I choose to use Hemp Protein because it's the least processed option I could find. Most protein powders such as rice protein or pea protein are isolates which means the protein has been extracted. This may not necessarily be the worst thing, I haven't necessarily looked at the extraction process, but I prefer to consume whole foods whenever I can. Especially when it's something I consume almost everyday. Hemp Protein is literally just group up hemp seeds with the oils pressed out. I also add whole hemp seeds to benefit from their healthy fats as they're rich in Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids in proportions beneficial to the body. There's optional creatine powder in the recipe, which is meant to help reduce muscle atrophy, so it's a great little supplement to have after a heavy workout. But feel free to omit if you don't have any on hand.
The colour of this smoothie is simply gorgeous, look at that deep purple! It's also worth mentioning that blueberries get their colour from flavanoids called anthocyanins, "which possess antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anti-obesity effects, as well as prevention of cardiovascular diseases."
