I wasn't planning to post anything today, but I made this awesome smoothie bowl for myself after the gym this morning which turned out so good. So I just had to share it with you!
This was a pretty spontaneous recipe using what I had in the freezer. As with most smoothie bowls it's got bananas in it, but I also added some passionfruit to balance out the sweetness and give it a nice tang. I've recently rediscovered my love for buckwheat groats and I've been using them as topping for pretty much everything. Even though it's called buck(wheat), it's actually not related to wheat at all and it's naturally gluten-free and very nutritious. I buy the raw activated ones so I don't have to worry about cooking or soaking them, and they add a nice crunch!
I made some homemade sugar-free carob chocolate for the blog the other night (recipe coming soon), and I used a bit of it in the bowl as well. Carob chocolate is naturally a bit softer than regular chocolate, so as I was eating the bowl, it kind of slowly melted and blended into the smoothie and added this amazing layer of flavour to it.
As well, I won this Instagram giveaway by Just Blends a while back so I thought this would be a good opportunity to use the Blue Spirulina powder they sent me. The powder is really strong and a little goes a long way. I really like the colour that it produced. It's a nice turquoise hue and it didn't impart any taste at all which is great.
Without any further ado, here's the recipe for this delicious Banana Passionfruit Smoothie Bowl. If you like this recipe, please let me know in the comments section below!
